7th September, 2013

Shall we start from the start?

On Thursday Hugh (my boyfriend) & I rushed around ,like crazy, mad human beings for our plane out from Gold Coast the following morning. We arrived in Gold Coast that night at 8pm and were then told our flight had been cancelled. So we caught one Saturday morning instead. We arrived at Narita Airport at 7pm, which actually seems to be an alright time for arrivals...it took us all of 47 minutes to collect baggage, clear customs and swap in our vouchers for Japan Rail Passes.

The lady at JR ticket office was very helpful and told us the quickest and easiest way to get to our hotel. We managed to miss our train, despite being on the right platform, because we have no brains, obviously. The train just sort of ninja'd in and out again before we realised. So at 8.30pm, after having been on a plane for 9 hours previously and awake since 6am that morning, we boarded the train to..some place that I can't recall the name of. All I can remember is that it took 80 minutes, so we arrived at said random station at 9.50pm. We could have swapped there to get to Suidobashi station, just 2 mins walk from our hotel, but we were tired, grouchy and hungry so we caught a taxi to the hotel from the random station, which cost us about $30 AUD. We checked in at 10.15pm to our hotel, Hotel Niwa, Chiyoda.

The front desk reception were extremely friendly & helpful & despite being small (as expected) we found the room to be really nice. We dumped our bags & went out to get our 1st dinner in Japan, as we hadnt eaten properly since our lunch of meat pies at about 12pm that day. There was some sort of convenience mart next to the hotel so our 1st dinner became 2 minute noodles of an unknown flavour.

After that we settled down for bed, discovering very tiny toothpaste and free pyjamas, happy to have finished our journey. Happy to finally be in Japan!

Tiny Tiny Toothpaste!
